What is a Mongolian yurt?

What do I need to bring?

free range produceWe like to think we have thought of everything, but you do need to bring your wash bag (environmentally friendly shower and hand soap provided - so please use these and leave your own at home) and clothes. For food and wine at Sopley Lake you are surrounded by pick your own fruit and veg fields and you can purchase seasonal produce here. Just across the New Forest is Ferndene Farm Shop, and we are delighted to be able to offer their fine farm produce including glamping champagne breakfasts directly to your 60 litre fridge. All you have to do is turn up, cook and enjoy. Access our online farm shop. All kitchenware and tableware are provided.

Close by in the village of Bransgore there is a mini-market, green grocers, butchers, chemists and much more.

If you need to charge your phone and you are coming by car please bring a car phone charger. If you are not coming by car we suggest bringing a power pack. Back to top

Do I need to bring bedding & towels?

No. We provide towels and bedding for the numbers booked. Back to top

Shall I bring a torch?

We do provide torches, battery and gas powered lanterns. However if there is any chance of you arriving after dark please bring a torch to help you initially. Back to top

How do I get there?

Please check out our location. Detailed directions will be given to you in your yurt camp guide, which is available to you two weeks before your holiday begins (we update it regularly). Back to top

What time is check in and check out?

Your yurts will be ready for you at 3pm on the day of your arrival. Please check out by 11am. Back to top

Where can I eat locally?

The Woolpack is perfectly walk able from the yurt site and offers great food. Other recommended pubs nearby The Three Tuns in Bransgore, offers superb food and great atmosphere. The Conqueror Inn at the Eastclose Country House Hotel is a sharper establishment (not so muddy well if you no what I mean) with some great dishes and a firm favourite. And there are many other restaurants and pubs in the area for you to explore. Back to top

Is there electric?

What is there to cook on?

Double gas ring and a BBQ. We provide the gas and a 5kg bag of charcoal to get you started. More charcoal is available from the mini-market in Bransgore. Back to top

What can I cook with?

Frying pan, set of three pots, set of knives, chopping board, BBQ tools, spoons, potato masher, spatulas, garlic press, lemon juicer, mixing bowl, sieve, spaghetti spoon, roasting tin, etc, etc. Back to top

Do I have to share the bathroom or cooking area or camp fire or anything with anybody?

What are the bathrooms like?

We could show you pictures. But then we don't want to give everything away before you get there. We will tell you that the shower is hot, and no, it is not open to the elements! Back to top

What about wood for the fire?

You have a basket of wood, fire lighters and kindling in the yurts. We also include one netted bag of wood for your camp fire per night . There is plenty of wood available stored at the yurts, we ask you to pay into an honesty box for extra bags at cost price. Back to top

Can I bring my dog?

Well behaved dogs are most welcome. Please clean up after your dog, respect other campers, and keep your dog under control. Back to top

Is there anything else to do around here apart from relaxing in my yurt?

Oh yes. You are 30 minutes from Southampton or Bournemouth. You are five minutes from the New Forest National Park. You are fifteen minutes from the beach. You can sail, fish, fly, cycle, shoot, run, ride, canter, gallop, swim, or just chill round the camp fire.

Can we fish on Sopley Lake?

Sopley Farm charge £10 a day for coarse fishing and people can fish from 9am - 6pm weekdays only from May 1st onwards. Tickets can be obtained from the farm shop as you enter Sopley Lake. The lake itself is approximately 10 acres in total with depths of up to 10ft. Contains a good head of Carp (to 30lb), Bream and Roach. It also has quite a few Golden Orfe. Fishing rods are available to rent for £10 a day. Please advise before hand if you wish to rent one.
