Glamping in the UK
Fridge, wood burner, hot showers and comfortable beds; all things every camper would love to take with them but may find it a struggle to find the space in even the largest 4x4.
Glamping has recently become a huge phenomena with glamping resorts springing up in all counties, countries and continents. From teepees to Mongolian yurts, caravans to lodges, gers to bell tents, trailers, trucks, tree houses, huts and carts. The inventive and imaginative can turn almost anything into a glamping experience.
The term glamping is defined as glamorous camping. The idea is to provide home-style facilities whilst enjoying the great outdoors. Getting closer to nature from the comfort of your armchair whilst waiting for the wine to cool down in the fridge. Listening to the geese fly over head from under your duvet, stoking the wood burner rather than lighting your camping gas burner to find some warmth in the morning. The oft neglected part of glamping is the first word, glamorous. Just because you have an old bed under canvas does not make it so!
The recession has probably helped the UK glamping industry, with stay-at-home Brits looking for new ways of pleasing the family without over extending the budget. Glamping prices vary enormously, however most budgets are covered and if you are prepared to do more on the scale towards camping than glamorous some very reasonable holidays are on offer. In addition glamping hen parties are sticking closer to home and conscientiously try to avoid putting financial pressure on friends and families. Glamping hen weekends are becoming more and more popular. Especially as the age of marriage increases, the more mature bride sometimes does not want a wild night in the bright lights. A yurt hen party easily fits the criteria.
Glamping in the UK will only go from strength to strength. With increased competition and the power of customer reviews on the internet, whether it be TripAdvisor or otherwise, the facilites and standards will have to slide more to the glamorous than the camping aspect. But you still need an element of the great outdoors, and none is finer than in the beautiful countryside we have in the UK. Happy glamping!
